The Farm Must Go On

Liran Almosesino was a farmer, a husband, and the father of five children who was killed defending his community from Hamas terrorists on October 7. As an active member of a Jewish National Fund-USA-supported national agricultural volunteering organization, he was also responsible for the care and education of teen volunteers who came to learn and work on his farm over the years.  

Devastated but determined, the teens have stepped up to fill Liran’s shoes, keep Israeli grocery stores stocked, and support the Almosesino family and the larger agricultural community in their time of need.  

Shira Rogov, the head of the pre-army volunteer group, shared, “There was a lot of pain when we heard the news, but also an understanding that we need to get to work.”  

Hila, a volunteer, was choked up describing the fatherly role Liran had taken towards the group, and the hole his loss has left. Yet, she also held her chin high as she said, “Liran was with us every day. He was the first person we saw in the morning and he really cared for everything. Now we’ll continue his legacy overseeing his herd, his sheepfold, and his factory. We’re here to work.”  

These brave volunteers are joined by dozens of others from around Israel who had never met Liran but came to answer the call for help. Local farmer Yariv Milu, visibly moved by the outpouring of support, explained, “The situation is unthinkable, but the mission is the same: Zionism. We need to be strong; we will return and rebuild; this is our responsibility.” With the ongoing support of Israelis, Jewish National Fund-USA, and Zionists worldwide, we will indeed fulfill this responsibility and carry on Liran’s legacy.
